Gabe got a set of Tonka Chuck cars from his grandma and grandpa for Christmas. Today he wanted to play with them together, so we got them out. We drove them around on this cloth mat my mom made with a road printed onto the fabric. Then I started having the cars "talk" to each other, and Gabe thought that was fun. My cars asked his cars if they wanted to play...Then one of his cars jumped onto one of my cars and my car got upset. It turned into an opportunity to teach my toddler about being kind and gentle and saying you're sorry when you hurt someone. Then, our cars played a few games together, like "duck, duck, goose" and "red light, green light." Then, during a game of "tag," one of Gabe's cars hit one of my cars again. Again, my car started crying and went away from the rest of the group. Gabe made his car drive over to my car and said "I'm sorry."
Lesson learned :D
And now I'm already brainstorming about other ways I can use these cars to role-play for my toddler. Hey, they do it on TV all the time. Why not do it with the toys in our own home?
