Gabe turned three a few days ago, and yesterday I started doing a little "school" with him in the morning. So basically right now, we have a "letter of the week," and then each day a new word that starts with that letter. Since his name starts with G, we're starting with the letter G. So the first "word of the day" was Gabe. We did an activity together where I helped him cut out his name typed in several different fonts, then we glued them onto green paper; we watched a home video about him as a baby, and we looked at pictures of Gabe. Every once in a while I would point to his name and ask, "What does this say?" And he would say "Gabe!"
So today the word was "Go." We read "Go, Dog. Go!" and I pointed out each time it said "Go" in the book. Then he colored red, green, and yellow circles and I helped him cut them out and tape them onto a picture of a traffic light and I wrote "Green means Go."
Anyway. At first, I would point to the word "Go" and ask what it said and he would say "Gabe." Then I would correct him and say "Go."
Fast forward to lunch time. The book "Go, Dog. Go!" ia still sitting on the table. Gabe gets an excited look on his face and shows me on the cover page down underneath the main title where it says "P.D. Eastman's Book of Things that Go." Now I had not pointed out this part before, but Gabe points to the word "Go" and says, "This says Go!" Yay! He's catching on!
