Time to Babyproof...

Monday night Isaac made his way across the living room floor for the first time. There's no stopping him now!

As he starts to get into things, though, I am realizing that this place isn't as babyproof yet as it probably should be. We are working on that, though.

Funny how each baby is so different. When Gabe was just over 1 year old we moved into this place. He was crawling, but not yet walking at the time. We had boxes of stuff all over the place for several weeks as we slowly found new homes for all our possessions. I have pictures of Gabe sitting amidst a pile of Ziploc baggies that he had pulled out one by one. But, what?! you say? I let my one-year-old play with plastic bags?! But see, I knew my kid; and I knew that he never put anything into or near his mouth unless it was food or a binky. It was wonderful, because I never worried about him choking himself on a small object. He got away with playing with all sorts of stuff that I would never let my second baby play with. Because Isaac, unlike his brother, will put anything into his mouth.

It's going to be a challenge now. Because Gabe is so used to playing with pretty much anything, and he's not always perfect about cleaning up after himself, either. And Isaac already gets upset if he sees his brother playing with something and we won't let him play with it, too.

Fortunately, Gabe is starting to play more in his bedroom as opposed to the living room, and he even closes the door at times. So that will make it easier to keep the baby away from unsafe toys. And we have most of the baby toys out in the living room. And if absolutely necessary, I can always put the baby in the playpen for a short time to keep him safe.

Fun times are ahead.
